Obituary

Heather Atkinson- Blackman 44, of Independence, MO died tragically Monday, June 24, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be 6-8pm Monday, July 1, 2019 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Heather was born on March 9, 1975 in Kansas City, MO to Jay Atkinson and Theresa Hieromymus. For the past 3 years Heather was a server at the Blue Springs Waffle House where she was known as “Hummingbird” for her constant humming while she worked. Heather was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her life revolved around her children and spending as much time as she could with them. Being a new grandmother was the icing on the cake for her. Heather loved to have fun no matter what she was doing, even cleaning the house was an occasion to blast music and dance with her kids. Her children always looked forward to her biscuits and gravy, which she had taught her oldest son to make. She had recently taken up vegetable gardening in her spare time. Heather was a very strong person and raised her children as a single parent. Heather has left a hole in many hearts that can never be filled. Survivors include: son Dylon Blackman; daughter Therise Atkinson; daughter Chole Atkinson; Elijah Carpenter; son J.D. Carpenter; granddaughter Ella Blackman; mother Theresa Hieromymus; sister Jessica Bray; brother Dana Graf, Jr.; sister Jennifer Olinger; sister Kendra Dykes; a large extended family and many friends. Heather is preceded in death by her grandparents, father Jay Atkinson and a son, Preston Atkinson.

My condolences to the Blackman family. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of dear Heather. Some Bible scriptures that have helped me during times of loss include Isaiah 26:19 and Psalm 37:28,29 which states in part: "Your dead ones will live...They will rise up". And the Bible also says "The righteous themselves will possess the earth and they will forever reside upon it". Therefore the Bible promises that we may be reunited with our loved ones lost in death by means of an earthly resurrection". This is further confirmed by John 5:28,29 which says "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". This is possible thanks to Jesus Christ's ransom sacrifice. Thus we have a genuine hope of everlasting life in a world without wickedness or suffering.
