Shelley Christine Anderson, 54, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 6-8pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO 64055. A memorial service will be on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 3pm, also at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Shelley was born to Royden and Janice (Nelson) Groe on September 14, 1964 in Albert Lea, MN. She spent much of her life, and attended school, in Lake Mills, IA, but it was after her move to Newton, KS, Shelley met the love of her life, Steve Anderson. The couple married and soon started a family, eventually having three children. Shelley worked in client care assisting people with special needs, something she was very passionate about and loved doing. And she was perfect for the job; Shelley was extremely loving and caring, always doing things for others, and just a selfless woman. For the last several years, Shelley was a full-time grandma to her nine grandchildren and loved every moment of it. She also enjoyed thrift store shopping, (always for others), yardwork, her beautiful backyard, her birds, especially hummingbirds, her big dogs and cats, that were also her babies, spending time with friends and family, and she loved Jesus. Shelley is survived by her loving husband, Steve Anderson; children, Sarah Anderson, Seth Anderson, and Sadie (Jacob) Johnson; her mother, Janice (Mike) Lyons; sisters, Valerie (Dan) Johnson, Pauline Groe, and Nichole (Derek) Simmons; 9 grandchildren, Lizzy, Isaac, Camron, Eli, Lake, Lillie, Leah, Layton, and Landon; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Royden Groe; granddaughter, Lindsey; grandparents, Norris and Ruth Groe and Irvin Nelson and Laura Kvale; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eldo and Lola Anderson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Susan G. Koman Foundation,

I had never met Steve and Shelley in person, however we have had a lengthy face book relationship ... for several years. Steve and Shelly are two of the most wonderful people I know. Their faith in the Lord and the way they treat others says it all. I am so sad to hear of Shelley's passing, but we know that she is with the Lord, and where better a place to be? Prayers for you Steve and the rest of the family as you try to move forward during this difficult time.

Thank you Barbara... We felt like we knew you as well, as saw you as a very loving, kind friend, who also loves Jesus! That's what it's all about! And ONE DAY - we will all be together with our LORD in Heaven... My Precious Shelley just beat us Home! Thank you again, for your love, support and PRAYERS!

I’m not even sure where to start... I’ve been struggling to find sufficient words to write about a person as special as Shelley. I’m still in shock she’s gone from us here. 😭 I have AWESOME memories of growing up around Shelley and Steve’s precious family... they just couldn’t have known how special they were to me (and to the my whole family). I believe that children KNOW when adults like them and it was clear that Shelley thought I was great! She always made me feel good about myself. This is a rare quality — in fact, I truly believe IT. IS. A. CALLING.!!! 🤗
I remember well that I absolutely LIVED to babysit or even just hang out at the Anderson home, especially to see the animals (giant dogs 😂) and THOSE BEAUTIFUL KIDS! 🥰 I was so enamored by Sadie as a baby/toddler, I later named my grandma’s dog Sadie because I didn’t want to wait any longer lol. Seth was always well-behaved and sweet! And that Sarah... I doubt there is anyone with a bigger, more forgiving heart than hers!
Shelley had a SPECIAL sparkle and I can literally still hear her laugh when I think of her - and it’s been 25+ years since I’ve seen her in person!!! That speaks volumes! Today my mom was telling me how much she LOVED having them in her Sunday school class. She had multiple hilarious stories she remembers about Shelley & family. Someday we would love to visit in person and reminisce with you and LAUGH till we hurt! 🥰
Can you imagine how much brighter heaven became when Shelley entered? It’s bitter sweet... that’s for sure! Shelley, you will be missed here, but I sure hope you and the good vet (my Dad) are having a ball up there! Sadie is right... knowing that you and my dad are up there makes heaven sound even sweeter! Love to you all. 🙏🏼
